Minecraft 1.18 update: Caves and Cliffs
Do you want to know everything that comes in the Minecraft 1.18 update? The Caves and Cliffs update has been split into two halves – the first part has already been released with the Minecraft 1.17 update . This means we have plenty of Minecraft monsters to new get acquainted with, like goats , , glowing squid and axolotls , as well as the new amethyst blocks .
However, Update 1.18 is where all the world-changing features will arrive. These include new biomes, a fearsome new enemy mob in the form of Minecraft Warden, and new blocks. enabling Wireless Redstone for the first time in Minecraft. It’s all very exciting stuff and if you can’t wait until the official release date to experience it for yourself, you should probably check out the Minecraft Snapshot Betas .
So without further ado, this is a rundown of everything we currently know about the Minecraft 1.18 update, also known as part 2 of the Caves & Cliffs update. We will also include all announcements Mojang has made regarding confirmed features that will be coming after the 1.18 update.
Minecraft update 1.18 release date
The Minecraft 1.18 update will be released in the holidays of 2021. Since Minecraft 1.17 has just been released, there is currently no updated snapshot beta version beyond the official version, although this is likely to change in the near future.
New Features in Minecraft 1.18 Caves & Cliffs
Finally, there are three amazing new features coming to Minecraft through the Caves & Cliffs update. One of them is the new packages feature, which is designed to help with inventory management.
You will be able to create bags in which you can place as many items as you can. Its overall capacity is unknown at this time, but it appears that there could be multiple inventory slots full. Packages can be stored in chests and can be mixed and matched.
Sculk Blocks and Wireless Redstone
One of the characteristics of the Deep Dark biome is that it is where Sculk growths are normally found. It is a new source of energy similar to Redstone, but it is the key to finally introduce us to wireless activation of devices with Redstone technology.
If a Sculk Sensor detects footsteps or destroys / places a block, it will emit a new redstone signal. These can be used to operate devices without a redstone trail connecting them.
You can also use wool to prevent the signal from passing, which means you can make sure the trigger only activates the signal between Sculk signals and gadgets . The possibilities of wireless redstone in constructing urban buildings or the colossal castles of Minecraft are almost endless!
Minecraft 1.18 updates Caves & Cliffs biomes
Noise caves are new types of caves that can be generated underground; They come in two varieties: cheese and spaghetti. The cheese caves have wide open areas lined with stone pillars, and the spaghetti caves are long, narrow, and winding. Caves can also contain aquifers, flooded cave systems with an abundance of minerals within them.
This cave system is full of vines, fruits, and flowers that hang from the ceilings. They are inspired by paintings by the Swedish painter John Bauer, whose work shows people walking through huge wooded areas.
To find a lush cave , you can try to find azalea trees on the surface. These may indicate that there are lush caves underneath that you can mine and explore.
The Exuberant Caves are covered in new flora. The aforementioned Azalea plants come in both flowering and non-flowering forms, but will turn soil into rooted soil. This is important as rooted soil has the potential to generate dangling roots under it, which you can harvest.
Spore flowers are pink flowers on the roof and drop particles. Mojang did not say whether these particles do anything, but he did say that spore flowers can be moved to ceilings in other places. Moss also grows in the Lush Caves and is available in block form or as mosaics.
There are also vines that grow inside the Lush Caves with orange fruits. These are glow berries that can be picked and eaten, filling a small amount on the hunger meter. However, they are possibly best left on the vines as they provide natural light on their own. As the vines grow, there is a small chance that they will grow a luminous berry in the next segment down.
The last new plant is the Dripleaf plant and it could be useful for those who want to build a jungle-themed obstacle course. You can jump on its leaves, but the leaf will fall the longer you stay on them. You will eventually fall off, but luckily this won’t cause any permanent damage to the plant as the leaves fully recover.
You can only plant the small dripleaf plants on clay or soil that is underwater. Once they are fully grown (either naturally or using bone meal to speed up the process), you can harvest the large leaves that can be placed anywhere.
Finally, when the Lush Caves are introduced, the watery areas will be where the axolotls can be found, rather than their current location of the underground rivers.
Dripstone Caves and the Deep Dark biome
The stalagmites and stalactites made it to 1.17, but they are also the ones that will make the Dripstone Caves stand out. By destroying the blocks on top of the stalactites, the rest will fall from above. Stalagmites, on the other hand, act like spikes and can hurt friend and foe alike. Stalactites also leak water, so you can use a bucket to collect the water. This provides you with a renewable source of water.
You can combine various stalagmites and stalactites to make them as long as you can imagine. Not only will stalactites drip water, but they can also drip lava, which can be collected in a cauldron underneath, in case you need it for later. is also noted that if you launched one trident a sharp stone drip, drip stone breaking.
Throughout the Minecraft Live presentation, Mojang has hinted at a third new biome called “Deep Dark,” along with some of the items and mobs found within, but hasn’t talked in depth about the biome itself.
This new mob aims to take players back to their first night in Minecraft, when everything was terrifying. The Warden is located in the Deep Dark biome, and his only goal is to make you pee in your pants. They can be found deep in dark underground areas and are considered a mob of hostile monsters.
Guardians are completely blind, but they react to vibrations from footsteps and thrown objects. Snowballs can distract the keeper as it detects vibration from the snowball’s impact. They can make the screen briefly dim when one is nearby, though Sculk sensors, another new type of block, react to their presence as well.
If you come across one, you can try to dodge it, but you have to be very careful. If it knows where you are, the center light comes on when it is chasing you, it will work quite quickly and can harm you to improve your health. It’s worth noting that the damage taken by the Guardian ignores the armor, so it’s best to be prepared. Who knows, maybe the trident is an effective weapon to use against him.
Sadly, this is the announced feature that will come after the Minecraft 1.18 update. We say “sadly” because this is probably the coolest new addition.
Around the surface, excavation sites will appear. These have chests that contain brushes. You can then use the brushes inside the excavation sites, or make your own from certain materials, to remove certain blocks, such as gravel and dirt.
Sounds great right? Hidden treasures are waiting to be found. But there is a big catch. If you are careless and do not fully discover the artifact before continuing, you risk destroying it and losing it forever. However, if you are careful, you can excavate priceless artifacts or rare blocks, such as a blue pottery shard with some art or an emerald block.
Pottery shards can be used to rebuild flower pots by placing them in templates over campfires. Once you’re happy with your design, you can light the well below them with some flint and steel to complete the pot.
And that’s all we currently know about the Minecraft 1.18 update and more. If you’re looking to improve your Minecraft experience a bit, we have plenty of guides to experiment with the best Minecraft mods , the coolest Minecraft shaders, and some great Minecraft servers to play with.
